Christos Zografos

I am an environmental social scientist and my work focuses on the study of environmental governance and change within the fields of political ecology and ecological economics. I am currently co-ordinating the ‘European Network of Political Ecology’ (ENTITLE) project, which is funded by European Commission’s (EC) 7th Framework Programme (FP7) Marie Curie Actions. I am also a Visiting Lecturer for masters programmes at the University of Edinburgh (UK) and Masaryk University (Czech Republic), and have delivered lectures for several other universities in Europe and Latin America. Before my current post, I worked as a Senior Postdoctoral Fellow with the FP7 ‘Environmental Justice Organisations, Liabilities and Trade’ (EJOLT) project. Prior to that, I was the Scientific Co-ordinator for the FP7 SSH research project ‘Climate Change, Hydro-conflicts and Human Security’ (CLICO), and before that a Lecturer in Environmental Economics at the Scottish Agricultural College (currently SRUC) in Edinburgh, UK.
My research uses political ecology to study power and the politics of environmental conflict (e.g. wind energy conflicts) and change (e.g. climate change); my work in the field of ecological economics explores the relevance of plural values and deliberative democracy for sustainability decision-making. A further area of interest concerns degrowth, and in particular, relations between direct democracy and degrowth transformations. I have worked extensively on the application of Q methodology for research on diverse issues (e.g. climate change adaptation, social enterprise, food sovereignty) related to environmental governance. I have been the main editor of a book on ‘Deliberative Ecological Economics’, a Lead Author of one of the chapters of ‘The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity’ (TEEB) report, and have published over a couple of dozen of refereed book chapters and articles in international peer-reviewed journals including Global Environmental Change, Climatic Change, Environmental Science and Policy, Environment & Planning A, the Journal of Rural Studies, Marine Policy, Environmental Values, Ecological Economics, Environmental Policy and Governance, Agriculture and Human Values, and Futures.
I have a PhD in Environmental Sciences (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona), a Master of Advanced Studies in History & Economic Institutions (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona), an MSc in Ecological Economics (University of Edinburgh) and a BA in Business Administration (Athens University of Economics & Business).
